Abstract
This paper aims to discuss the development of higher education in management in Brazil between 1940 and 1950. Initially we briefly discuss the methods used to collect data and select the researched archives. Then, we present a discussion on bilateral relations between the two nations. In the section that follows we make some considerations about the undergraduate courses which received support from United States and about the cooperation agreements themselves. We conclude that the “Americanization” of management discipline in Brazil has deep roots, and that for a more self-conscious knowledge to be built and strengthened we should reflect about its constitution and the influences of foreign models on it. Finally we suggest that future research could deepen discussions researching about the history of specific Brazilian undergraduate courses in management, especially those which participated on some agreements with other institutions.
