Abstract

This article aims to discuss the participation of Brazilian civil society organizations within the scope of development cooperation. This is a theoretical article that seeks to problematize the processes of development cooperation and to build an analytical framework able to cope with the participation of new actors, of a non-governmental nature, in the relationships between developing countries. This is commonly referred to as South-South Cooperation and the article also looks at the implications of this in terms of extending the rights of extremely vulnerable communities. The article draws on literary sources from many different fields of knowledge, especially international relations, political sociology and social management. The idea is to understand the possibilities, prospects and pitfalls that are involved in the processes of development cooperation, and which are shaped by both the search for greater horizontality among nations and by the participation of new actors, especially those from civil society.
