Abstract

Although the expression “rape culture” is not new, it has gained the streets and social networks with the new feminist movements, after the publicity of a gang rape occurred in Rio. The question is: are we really living in a rape culture? If so, what is it? Could it be possible that these movements would be presenting an anti-rape culture? This article discusses the ambiguity of the expressions “rape culture” and “anti-rape culture”, how they have been built and the role of law in maintaining or dealing with the relational code of honor in rape crime. The article points to the need of rethinking this dualism, as well as the public policies of assistance to victimized women.
