Structure and dynamics of the medical workforce in Brazil in the 70s

Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the principal social, economic, demographic and institutional characteristics of the physician's labor market in Brazil, from 1970 to 1980. The data reported are derived from the Information System of the Research of Human Resources for Health in Brazil, developed at the National School of Public Health of Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (ENSP/Fiocruz).
After studying the regional distribution of the physicians in Brazil, the paper analyses this labor force based on some variables, as sex, age, personal income work, wage's conditions, education, day labor and health institutional characteristics.
