Abstract
Os traços básicos do sistema administrativo britânico foram estabelecidos num período em que a Grã-Bretanha era politicamente dominante e relativamente rica, de meados de 1850 a meados da década de 1920. As principais características do moderno serviço civil, a estrutura do governo central (incluindo os gabinetes do primeiro-ministro e dos ministérios), a administração municipal, as empresas públicas e as relações constitucionais entre os diferentes elementos do sistema surgiram durante esse período.
