Socioenvironmental conflicts and risks: analysis of the relationship between the Costa do Sauípe complex and local actors

Abstract

This paper analyzes the process of building political-institutional mechanisms of coordination based on the study of the socioenvironmental conflicts between the Costa do Sauípe hotel and tourism complex — located in the environmental protection area of the northern coast of Bahia — and local actors. Is begins by in investigating problem situations involving socioenvironmental risks, using the following data survey tools: documentation analysis; semi-structured interviews; non-participant observation. The products associated to this research include: an analytical framework built based on an institutionalist theoretical approach and the results of the application of this framework to the analysis of problem situations involving socioenvironmental risks identified in the relationship between the Costa do Sauípe complex and local actors. The paper intends to contribute to the discussion
about and understanding of the challenges of building the sustainability of this environmental protection area, as well as to support the formulation of intervention policies by the different actors involved in this issue.
