Efficiency study with the generation of rankings in public and private hospitals
Main Article Content
Abstract
Performance indicators (PIs) have been frequently used as tools for hospital performance evaluation in Brazil. A paper by Zucchi (1998) published in this journal, evaluated six public and private hospitais using that approach. The present paper improves Zucchi's work using an efficient frontier methodology referred in the literature as data envelopment analysis (DEA). DEA was able to assess the consumption and production leveis of the hospitaisand their ability to transform resources into services in an efficient way.
