The Unified System of Health Care: its implementation and particularities in some municipalities of Minas Gerais

Abstract
This article focuses on the process of establishing the so-called Sistema Único de Saúde (Unified System of Health Care), SUS. It starts with a broad discussion on the literature on this question. After that, it describes the cases of some municipalities of Minas Gerais (Pedra Azul, Teófilo Otoni, Varginha and Uberlândia). Based on these cases, it discusses the interests, the decision power and the commitment of the different social actors involved, as well as the advances in health care as a result of the implementation of the SUS model.
