The state enterprise and the challenge of a changing market: the case of the Banco do Brasil

Abstract
The article studies the performance of a public enterprise in a situation of crisis, trying to define its space, as well as its role within Brazilian economic environment. Taking into account the notion that is perfectly justifiable to tom some segments into an area for private economic activities, this study having as subject the Banco do Brasil intends to demonstrate how necessary is the preservation of public enterprises that, by their action and significance, have been highly instrumental for the country's social and economic development.
