MBA and MPA: differences and similarities
Main Article Content
Abstract
Graduate studies in Brazil are characterized by stricto sensu and lato sensu courses. Doctorate and academic and professional master¿s courses (MPAs) are among the former, while specialization courses are among the latter (MBAs). Legislations helps to establish the differences between the two kinds of master¿s courses, but, except for the criteria established by the CNE/CES Resolution n. 1/2001, the same cannot be said about MBAs and MPAs, both focused on market demands. Identifying the need to fill this gap for the research community, this article tries to make this distinction. The authors analyzed the contents of statements from course coordinators at Coppead, Ibmec, PUC-Rio and FGV-Rio, according to categories established by the specialized literature. The research shows that, despite the fact that both courses are market oriented, their form and depth are different, as well as their public.
