The organizational issue at the university: the contributions of Etzioni and Rice

Abstract
Among the problems faced by the Brazilian university, the question of its organization has been discussed less intensively than subjects related to its autonomy, power structure and curriculum.
This paper analyzes the university question focalizing on organizational theory, specially the contributions of Amitai Etzioni and A. K. Rice.
After summarizing the present estate of the debates and presenting an explanation of the organizational question's origins, the article discusses both structuralist and system theory approaches by the two forementioned specialists, establishing some comparisons with Brazilian organizational teaching.
